BLDEACET established the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 1980 with an intake strength of 40. In 1994, the program was first approved by AICTE for an intake strength of 60. Subsequently, the program is approved every year.

The department has grown tremendously over the years. It is now recognized as a major engineering department of the institute with a present intake strength of 180 and quality teaching and instruction at UG/PG level.

This program was first accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) for Engineering and Technology, New Delhi, for three years from 31st March 2006. It is reaccredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) for Engineering and Technology, New Delhi, for three years from 30th June 2018 to 30th June 2020.

The faculty team with 42 members is a fine blend of experienced and junior faculty members. The average experience of teaching faculty is about 13 years. With a current strength of around 650 students, it is also one of the biggest departments of the institute.

Programs Offered

1. B.E (Mechanical Engineering)

The objective of this undergraduate program is to prepare world-class mechanical engineers. Students find placement in industry, academia and government in both India and abroad.

2. M.Tech in Machine Design , Approved intake: 06

3. PhD in Mechanical Engineering

This program places more emphasis on research content than course content. Many research scholars pursuing the PhD program.

The department staff is classified into three groups as per their specialization.

Mechanical Design group.
Production & Industrial Engineering Group.

Staff and Faculty

The department has a staff strength of 63 (42 teaching and 21 non-teaching and other staff). Among them, seven hold PhD from premier institutes of India.

The faculty members of the department also occupy different chairs of the institute, which include R&D Coordinator, Admission Coordinator and Chief Editor of the College News Bulletin. The technical staff of the department are associated with 12 different laboratories, and meet the norms as per AICTE, New Delhi, and VTU, Belagavi.

Key Facilities

The department houses a central workshop and is well-equipped with computational facilities and resources both in terms of hardware and software. There are more than 150 computer systems loaded with relevant software products covering all areas of Mechanical Engineering.
