The Department of Science and Humanities at BLDEA’s CET highly focuses on imparting quality education to the budding engineers to make them capable and well equipped to present their best in building the technically sound INDIA and also to meet the global challenges of Science and Technology. Adhering to the essence of Science and Technology, the faculty of the department strongly believe that Engineering and Science are axiomatic to humanistic and socially derived enterprises and thrive hard to produce dexterous Engineers who can give their best in analytical, computational and modelling abilities.
The Department consists of highly experienced, committed and adept faculty members. Nine faculties hold Ph.D. degrees from reputed universities and four are pursuing their Ph.D. The faculty members are actively involved in the R & D activities and have published articles in reputed international and national journals. The faculty also have funded projects added to their credit which uncover the proficiency of the research talent amongst the faculty.
The department of Science and Humanities gives its best in fostering the first year students, facilitating them in the basic courses of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry as well as the languages of English and Kannada.
We all know Mathematics: ‘ the queen of sciences’ is the basis for all branches of Science, Engineering and Technology. Every simple or complex idea needs to be modelled mathematically, thought logically and apply skills to come out with the output. The first and second year students are trained to focus their ideas mathematically.
The study of Physics reveals the mysteries of nature through its knowledge. The Physics laboratory is adequately equipped for performing all types of experiments.
The teaching fraternity at the department of Chemistry aim at giving knowledge about the manufacturing processes where the material gets transformed from one form to another. The students are also enlightened about the ‘Need of the hour’: global warming and the pollutions, that need to be taken care for their healty future.
English: the language for all walks of life. A good command over the communicative English is the most essential skill in this modern world. The Department of English is fully equipped with skilled faculty and a good language laboratory to impart the language skills effectively.
Kannada: the mother tongue needs to be nurtured well amongst us for the better living and understanding of the social and cultural life and in this regard the Kannada language is taught to all the engineering students.
Science & Humanities Branch started in year 1980.We cater to the needs of First / Second Semester Students
Courses Offered:
Overview of the course
The study of this course basically creates an interest in understanding the principles of nature which have a wide range of engineering applications. Today’s technology is yesterday’s science and Today’s science will be tomorrow’s technology. Hence engineering & technology are directly related to Physics. The study of the subject requires student to know about the fundamentals of pure physical sciences, definitions, laws & concepts which have been studied in previous years.
Course Learning Objectives
This course (18PHY12/22) will enable students to:
a) Learn the basic concepts in Physics which are very much essential in understanding and solving engineering related challenges.
b) Gain the knowledge of newer concepts in modern physics for the better appreciation of modern technology
Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to
Understand various electrical and thermal properties of materials like conductors, semiconductors and dielectrics using different theoretical models.
Syllabus
Undergraduate Courses (B.E.):
Postgraduate Courses (M. Tech.):
Overview of the course
This course will enable the students to have basic ideas about corrosion and its prevention, electroplating, electrochemical reactions, working of batteries, importance of various energy resources including renewable, nonrenewable and alternate sources of energy, management of wastes. As Engineers are required to live in a healthy society hence a concise knowledge on purification processes of drinking water will be imparted to them, along with enlightening them with the importance of nano materials.
Department of Chemistry is recognized as a Research Centre in 2010 to pursue Ph.D program as per VTU letter No: VTU/Aca/2009-10/ A-9/5839 dated 25.08.2010.
