Department of Chemistry organised a Lecture Series by Distinguished Academicians
On 9th December, 2017, Department of Chemistry along with Institutional R & D Cell of BLDEA’s V. P. Dr. P. G. Halakatti College of Engineering & Technology, organized a Lecture Series by Distinguished Academicians. Prof. Gustavo Zubieta Calleja, Director and Professor, High Altitude Pulmonary and Pathology Institute (IPPA) and President, Zubieta University, La Paz, Bolivia delivered a talk on “ A Novel proposal for Space travel: lessons derived from life at high altitude” to the students and faculty members of the institute. He gave an idea on how space travel can be more comfortable with better understanding of high altitude adaptation and engineering design. His equation on hypoxia adaptation time = Altitude (m)/ PaO2 was really interesting. He has definitely made engineering students and faculty to think of space suit design with physiological understanding of low oxygen microenvironment.
Another talk was delivered by the eminent personality who is known as Lead Man of India, Prof. Thuppil Venkatesh, Director, National Referral Centre for Lead Poisoning, Advisor-Quality Council of India and UGC advisor to SAP program. The Lead Man of India had just made all of the audience to think cautiously about using lead containing products like hair dye, cosmetics, food items, batteries, soldering, paints, drinking water, automobile fuels etc. He enlightened the gathering about the severity of Lead toxicity which can be lethal. The audience was mesmerized with the way the speaker conveyed a serious message to the society. Dr. Thuppil Venkatesh also gave importance to the inter disciplinary research, as his topic was “From Medicine to Engineering: A way to Healthy Living”.
Dr. Swastika Das, Professor and Head, Department of Chemistry, was the convener of the program and organizing secretaries were Dr. Pradeep Malaji and Dr. Geetanjali Patil. Dr. V. P. Huggi, Principal Dr. Parthasarathi, Retired, Deputy Director of Telecom, Govt. of India, Dr. R. V. Kulkarni, Administrative Officer, BLDE Association, Dr. Kusal Das, faculty members and many students from different branches were present on the occasion.
