About the Department
Department of Chemistry was established in the year 1980 as a basic science department. The department is recognised as a research centre in the year 2010 and offers Ph.D. programme which is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi, Karnataka.
The foundation of Technology is based on Science. The department provides an excellent platform for the students in achieving academic excellence. It provides the basic knowledge of chemistry required for the engineering students. With the sound knowledge of chemistry, Engineers can be innovative, which will lead to good research and developmental work.
The Department has credited in co-invention of new technology to estimate blood Vitamin E (alpha tocopherol) in 2011. The method has been accredited in National Research Council, Canada as “intellectual property” besides published in a German Medical Journal.
Department has also undertaken the project entitled “Possible Environmental Pollution and Health Effects from Fluoride in Bijapur District (Karnataka)” (2013-2016) in collaboration with B.L.D.E. University’s Shri. B. M. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Vijiayapur.
Faculty members are actively involved in Teaching and Research activities. Major research areas are Chemical Kinetics, Phyto chemistry, Metal Toxicity and Nano Technology. Faculty members have published many research papers in reputed peer reviewed National/International journals and also presented papers in National/International conferences and seminars.
To provide students with the knowledge of applied aspects of Chemistry by inculcating the analytical inquisitiveness leading to create, design and synthesise new ideas in the field of science and technology.
- To enlighten the students about the importance of chemical science.
- To inform the students with the latest development in the technology related to chemistry so as to exploit it for further development of technology.
- To explore the ” researcher” in each student so that he could be innovator or inventor of tomorrow
